Symptoms of a Concussion After an Accident – What You Need to Know

February 28, 2022 by Accident Lawyer

Symptoms of a concussion often go undetected. However, when severe and left untreated, concussions can be fatal or result in life-long disabilities.

A concussion is a traumatic injury to the brain. While they are common injuries for many accident victims, they are severe. But they frequently go undiagnosed because many people fail to recognize the signs and symptoms. However, when severe and left untreated, concussions can be fatal or result in life-long disabilities.

If you or your loved one has suffered a head injury in an accident due to the recklessness or negligence of another, contact Apicella & Schlesinger Attorneys at Law.

Why Symptoms Often Go Undetected

According to the CDC, between 1.6 to 3.8 million sports and recreation-related traumatic brain injuries (TBI) occur yearly. The discrepancy in this statistic results from people not knowing the symptoms of a concussion and not seeking medical help; therefore, the injury is not recorded correctly.

One reason for this is that many concussion victims don’t lose consciousness. People – including medical professionals – often fail to recognize the symptoms. However, this is a dangerous conclusion because there are many other signs and symptoms to alert the injured person or their family and medical professionals that this type of injury occurred.

Symptoms of a Concussion

If you or a loved one has been injured, such as in a car accident, it’s critical to seek immediate medical attention. Time may be of the essence. The sooner an accident victim gets the proper diagnostic tests and treatment, the better their chances of making a full recovery.

Symptoms of a concussion include:

  • Loss of consciousness
  • No recollection of what happened before the accident
  • Dizziness and nausea
  • An incessant ringing in the ears
  • Extreme sensitivity to light
  • Abnormal sleep patterns
  • Mood changes

If you were involved in a car accident or construction accident and have any of these symptoms – seek medical help immediately.

When to Seek Legal Help

If you experience any of the above signs after an accident, you might have suffered a concussion. Seek immediate medical attention if you have not done so already and speak with an experienced personal injury lawyer as soon as possible to ensure your legal rights are protected after an accident.
